Meet Our Children’s Courtyard Staff – Ms. Teresa, Lead Infant Teacher

20160121_200212_resizedMeet Ms. Teresa, Lead Infant Teacher at our Children’s Courtyard Master School on Longenbaugh Rd. in Houston, TX. This January, she celebrates her 15th anniversary with The Children’s Courtyard. Check out our Q&A with Teresa to learn why she is so passionate about teaching our littlest learners.

Tell us about your background and why you chose a career in early education.

I have an associate’s degree in child care development and I worked for an adoption agency for about 20 years. I love children and I wanted to do something that I thought would be helpful.

What do you love about working with infants?

I love greeting them at the door. They’re so easy to love! They develop a relationship with you and they feel that you do care about them and love them. I just give them a lot of care. They look up to you and in the morning when they come in, some will just jump in my lap, and that makes me feel really, really good.

What about it is so rewarding to you?

I enjoy watching them grow and develop, and playing with them. It’s just rewarding for me to have the parent s trust me and have them feel like they don’t have to worry about their babies during the time they’re at work. Being able to have them feel the love I feel for them is very rewarding.

How do you explain our infant curriculum to parents?

I show them lesson plans and tell them some of the games we play to help with small and large motor skills and their receptive language and communication. I also tell them that we’re on the floor with them playing to help them develop social skills, motor skills, small muscle and large muscle skills. The storytelling that we do, it helps them to be able to communicate. The things that we do help them to develop.

What do you feel is your greatest accomplishment since you’ve been at The Children’s Courtyard?

I just like the fact that parents feel at ease with me and they feel very comfortable with me. And the fact that my students have siblings that also come through my class, and it just always seems like they’re interested that I’m here and that I can give the kids a good start.

What is so special about teaching at The Children’s Courtyard?

The Courtyard is a wonderful place. I’ve been here ever since January 2001. It’s so friendly. It’s just like a home away from home. It’s a wonderful place to work, and I love it here.
