Healthy Valentine’s Day Recipes for the Whole Family

Show your family – and your heart – some love with these healthy “Grow Fit” Valentine’s Day treats. You can start your day with our easy-to-make whole grain muffin paired with a strawberry banana smoothie!  Or treat everyone to a delicious sweet and savory pizza!

Whole Grain Strawberry Muffins:

Whole Grain Muffin Mix (plain)                                  1 box of mix

Frozen Strawberries (defrosted and mashed)           ½ cup

Lemon Juice                                                                     ½-1 Tbsp

Cooking Instructions:

  1. Prepare batter according to package direction (omitting ½ cup of water/liquid).
  2. Add additional items and pour into a pan.
  3. Bake according to package directions.

 

 

Valentine’s Turkey Pizza

Serves 8

Turkey Slices (chopped)                                                     ¾ lb.

Cream Cheese, warmed                                                       ¾ cup

Cranberry Sauce                                                                   ¾ cup

Mozzarella Cheese                                                                ¾ lb.

Whole Wheat Pitas (approx. 6” diameter)                      8 each

Cooking Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees (325 degrees for convection ovens).
  2. Cut pita to form heart shape (optional).
  3. Mix cream cheese and cranberry sauce together to form a “pink” cream cheese.
  4. Spread 2 Tbsp. cream cheese mixture on each pita.
  5. Equally divide turkey on top of the 8 pitas.
  6. Equally divide and top the turkey with the mozzarella cheese.
  7. Bake until cheese is melted and bubbly (approx. 5-10 min)
